Gabriel Daniel Calfbossribs, lovingly known as "Gabe," was born on May 31, 1982, in Cut Bank, Montana. After a long and difficult absence, Gabe has been found and laid to rest, bringing both sorrow and a measure of peace to those who never stopped loving him or holding onto hope.
Gabe was the son of Gerald Calflooking Jr. and the late Danette Calfbossribs. He spent his early years growing up in Browning, Cut Bank, and Heart Butte, Montana-places that shaped his spirit and where many of his lifelong memories were made. He also lived in Billings and Butte, Montana, carrying pieces of home with him wherever he went.
He attended school in Cut Bank, Browning, and at Chemawa, building friendships and connections that stayed with him throughout his life.
Gabe worked as a wildland firefighter, a role that spoke to his strength, courage, and willingness to stand in the face of danger for others. He proudly pushed back the flames with his family by his side as he fought with his father, brother and sister during the wildland fire season. He also worked at Sun Mountain Lumber in Butte, Montana. Whether on the fireline or at work, Gabe was known for his resilience and his ability to push through hard days.
More than anything, Gabe will be remembered for his presence-the way he could bring comfort without saying much, and laughter without trying too hard. He had a natural way of joking around, lifting spirits, and making people feel at ease. His humor and warmth left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his father, Gerald Calflooking Jr.; his son, Jacob; his sisters, Jamie and Kellie Fitzgerald, Danielle Wroblewski ; his brother, Josh; his aunts, April Calfbossribs and Aloha Redhead; and his uncles, Daniel Calfbossribs III (Threasa) and Ronald Redhead (Robin). He is also remembered by many extended family members and friends who cherished him deeply.
Gabe was preceded in death by his mother, Danette Calfbossribs; his sisters, Jennifer Fitzgerald and Kimberly Calfbossribs; his brothers, Steven and Gerald; and his grandparents: Carmen Redhead; Daniel Calfbossribs Jr.; Daniel and Mae Calfbossribs; Johnny and Mary Oldchief; Bernard Redhead Sr.; Gerald Calflooking Sr.; and Judy "Bubbles" Smith.
Gabe's journey was not an easy one, and the time he was missing weighed heavily on all who loved him. Through those long days and nights, he was never forgotten. His return, though marked by loss, brings a sense of closure and the opportunity to honor his life, his struggles, and the love that surrounded him.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends.
