Obituary

In loving memory of Leroy Martin Bearmedicine Sr.

December 13,1946-October 6, 2026

Leroy was born December 13,1946, in Browning, MT to Henry Bearmedicine Jr. and Irene No Runner. He was raised by his beloved grandparents, "mom and Pop," Isabel After Buffalo,
Wren, and Henry Bearmedicine Sr. who helped shape the man he became.

Leroy proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Vietnam veteran, reflecting the courage, dedication and commitment to others that guided his life.

He was a gifted artist who loved visiting galleries and expressing himself through drawing, sculpture, and painting. He found beauty in nature, the changing seasons, and the simple moments of life. An avid hunter and fisherman, Leroy always made time for the outdoors and collected rocks wherever he went, keeping them as reminders of the places he traveled and the memories he had made.

Music was another of his extraordinary gifts. He had a beautiful voice and could play the piano and guitar by ear. Certain songs he once sang will forever remind his family of his voice, talent, and the joy he shared through music.

Those who know Leroy will remember his knowledge, generosity, sense of humor, and willingness to help whenever he could. His family proudly carries on his gift of laughter. Leroy was a man of faith who believed in the power of prayer and often reminded those he loved to "keep praying." His words will continue to offer comfort and strength.

Leroy married Rosanna Rutherford in 1971 in Browning, MT and together they welcomed three children: Leroy Martin Jr., Dawn Marie, and Jennifer Lynn. After their divorce, he settled in Seattle, Washington, where he spent the remainder of his life.

His greatest legacy was his love for his family. They always knew how much he loved them, and that certainly remains a lasting source of comfort. His music, artwork, laughter, faith, and memories will continue through his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and all those whose lives he touched.

Leroy was proceeded in death by his long-time partner, Elizabeth Lamphere; "Mom and Pop," Isabel and Old Henry Bearmedicine Sr.; his birth parents, Henry Jr., and Irene No Runner; his half sister, Alice Mae No Runner Hansen; an infant granddaughter, Brianna Sloan Bearmedicine; and all his loyal pets.

Leroy leaves behind his beloved children: Leroy Martin Bearmedicine Jr. (Georgette), Dawn Marie Huckaba (Kipp) and Jennifer Lynn Bearmedicine (Chris Edwards).

He is also survived by his half-sisters; Mary (Arnold) Williams, Richland, WA., and Henrietta Bearmedicine.

His memory will live on through his grandchildren: Leroy III, Marcus, and Amanda Bearmedicine; Jade (Jordan) Lyman; Shannon and Joseph Bearmedicine; Asheli Huckaba (Matt) Racicot; MiShai Huckaba (Sawyer) Hillman; and Cooper Huckaba (Josh) Merrick.

He also leaves behind his cherished great grandchildren: Ethan and Hayden Racicot; Wilder, Sunnie, and Hays Hillman; and Juniper and Jackson Lyman

Leroy's family will forever treasure the lessons taught, the music he played, the artwork he created, the laughter he shared, his service to his country, and all the love he gave. His legacy will continue through every generation that follows, carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Leroy's life was a gift, and his memory will forever be cherished.

Leroy will be laid to rest with full military honors in recognition of his service as a United States Army Vietnam veteran.

A special thank you, to the "best neighbors" he always boasted about. We are grateful for the love, care and help they provided for our dad over the years.
